  10. ¶1How  often  haven't you seen that ugly
  11. requester..   "read/write error" ?  It
  12. ruins everything, it makes you go mad,
  13. it  gives you a blackout of furiosity!
  14. It  appeared  again, on my sourcedisk!
  15. It has done it one time before, then I
  16. nearly lost everything.

  18. Luckily  there  are  recovery programs
  19. like  DiskSalv, FixDisk and some other
  20. minor  programs.   I managed to rescue
  21. the disk, fortunately.

  24. ¶3    HOW TO AVOID READ/WRITE ERRORS
  25. ¶2  ----------------------------------
  26. ¶1There  are some things you could do to
  27. avoid  read/write errors:  Always make
  28. a  backup  of important disks that you
  29. use  a  lot  (sourcedisks,  Always use
  30. quality disks for important files!  Do
  31. ¶3NOT ¶1use any grey, noname disks.  These
  32. are   the   ones   with   the  highest
  33. read/write  percentage!   (That's  why
  34. they are so cheap!)
  35.    Blue  noname  disks  are  one level
  36. above  grey, but not good enough!  Use
  37. quality  disks,  like  TDK,  EverData,
  38. SKC!   Use  HD disks if your drive can
  39. handle  them!   Don't use noname disks
  40. for   anything   but  not-so-important
  41. files!

  43. ¶3NEVER  ¶1take  the disk out, or reset
  44. while the drive ¶3LED ¶1is lit!  No matter
  45. if the drive is writing or reading!
  46.   That's what I did, and I almost lost
  47. everything!

  49. ¶3NEVER  ¶2start  a  program i.e.  from
  50. Assembler  when  the drive ¶3LED ¶2is lit!
  51. The  program  may crash, and then it's
  52. that wellknown pain..

  55. ¶3     HOW TO REPAIR A DAMAGED DISK
  56. ¶2    ------------------------------

  59. ¶1For  repairing  a disk, you should use
  60. FixDisk  or  DiskSalv.   They  are the
  61. only programs which is trustable.
  62.  
  63. There  are  some  other programs which
  64. recovers  lost  files, i.e.  LastHope.
  65. Unfortunately  they  never do what you
  66. want   them   to   do;  recover  files
  67. properly.
  68.  
  69. If  there's only a few files you want,
  70. and  the  requester  shows  "Not A DOS
  71. Disk" - And you have an Action Replay,
  72. this is what you could do:

  74. I  just load the file to a free memory
  75. area,  and  save  it  to  another disk
  76. using   the  "SM"  command.   This  is
  77. possible because Action Replay doesn't
  78. use  trackdisk.device,  but  it's  own
  79. disk routines.

  81. ¶3            OTHER TRICKS
  82. ¶2         ----------------    
  83. ¶1I  read somewhere that if a file has a
  84. read/write  error,  and  you  have  an
  85. extra  drive,  you  should try loading
  86. the  file from DF1:/2:/3:  since it is
  87. less used that the internal drive.

  89. ¶3                BEWARE
  90. ¶2              ---------- 
  91. ¶1Beware   if   the   file   has  got  a
  92. read/write  error, and the drive isn't
  93. making that annoying "schrkk, sckhrrk"
  94. sound, it could possibly be a virus!
  95.    Also, if you are sure that it isn't
  96. a virus, it's easier to recover a file
  97. with  the "soft" read/write error than
  98. the "hard" one (schrkk..)

  100. Beware   of   the..   (loud  orchestra
  101. music) ...  Read/Write error!
